Martinsburg, WV man claims Lucky Numbers ticket worth $117,567
This week a West Virginia man learned that the Maryland Lottery’s fun FAST PLAY games can make someone a winner just as fast as you can play them. A young man’s weekend purchase of a $10 Lucky Numbers ticket turned the 19-year-old Martinsburg resident’s $10 bill into a $117,567 progressive-prize payout!
The winner told Lottery officials that he is a fan of Maryland Lottery scratch-offs and the occasional Powerball ticket, but said that the new game had caught his eye. He said he began to try the game after watching the FAST PLAY progressive top prize grow. On Sunday, those occasional purchases paid off when the ticket he scanned shortly after purchase returned a strange message. After a quick check with the store clerk, the young man waltzed out of the store with a ticket worth $117,567.
The lucky winner said the windfall will be helpful. In addition to helping the young man manage household expenses, he said the winnings will also help him with investments and unexpected expenses.
“This is life-changing money, so I know how special it is that I’m here with a winning ticket,” he said. This is the fifth progressive top prize claimed on FAST PLAY’s $10 Lucky Numbers game. This win is the second progressive prize won in March, following a March 18 win. The Lottery also welcomed three FAST PLAY progressive winners in February, following the FAST PLAY launch on February 10th.
The winning ticket was purchased at Sheetz #184 located at 12404 Lager Ave. in Hagerstown. The Washington County retailer will earn a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling the top-prize winning ticket.
Lucky Numbers is one of five FAST PLAY games that went on sale statewide last month. FAST PLAY is a new Maryland Lottery product featuring instant-win games that are printed by Lottery terminals and self-service vending machines but play like scratch-offs. Also in the lineup are the $1 Piggy Bank Bucks, $2 Cherry Twist, $3 Treasure Chase and $5 Hit $250 games.
The $10 Lucky Numbers game features a progressive top prize, which starts at $100,000 and increases with the purchase of each ticket until a top-prize winning ticket is sold. The top prize amount is updated every 15 minutes on in-store video displays and on mdlottery.com, and an up-to-the-minute figure is displayed on Lucky Numbers tickets. With this win the Lucky Numbers game has 35 progressive top prizes remaining.
