A retired Washington, D.C. woman’s decision to fill her free time with some scratch-off fun paid off when she won the $100,000 top prize on the Diamond 10s instant ticket!
Our lucky lady often spends her days driving around doing errands and keeping herself busy. “Every once in a while,” she said, she stops and tries her luck with Maryland Lottery games. The grandmother usually sticks to scratch-offs with an occasional game of Keno.
One day, the prizewinner stopped at Best One Food Mart in Prince George’s County to pick up two Diamond 10s instant tickets. Diamond 10s became her current favorite game when her niece bought her one and she won $500 on that first game.
After her first instant ticket failed to provide a payoff, the 73-year-old started scratching off her second game. She revealed the diamond emblem and started to uncover its prize amount only to find the $100,000 top prize. The happy player could not believe it!
“I saw the number and looked around calmly, trying to play it cool, and walked out to the car,” she said. The winner then called her daughter, who cast doubt on the big win. “Okay mom,” the daughter said, “how many zeroes are behind the one?”
The two women came together to Lottery headquarters to claim the prize. The happy player plans to use the windfall to pay off all of her bills and then do things for her grandchildren. Her daughter was adamant that our winner finally do something to “take care of herself for once!”
For selling a $100,000 top-prize scratch-off, Best One Food Mart at 6306 Addison Road in Capitol Heights also wins. The store earned a bonus of $1,000 from the Lottery for the sale; the bonus is equal to 1 percent of the prize.
