Lottery Ticket Checker Message Puzzles Player

Woman wins $10,000 prize on $100,000 Richer scratch-off

$100,000 RicherAn Owings Mills retiree who follows a routine when playing Maryland Lottery scratch-offs had to change course after an unusual message appeared on the ticket checker.

Although she scratches off her instant tickets, the loyal player doesn’t look to see if she won – or how much she won – before scanning tickets at Lottery retailers. She had to abandon that routine after playing a $100,000 Richer scratch-off at Giant #331 in Owings Mills.

“The ticket was too high to cash at that location,” said the 76-year-old. “I then took it to a store that could cash up to $5,000, and it was still too high to cash.”

While at the second location, the winner decided it was time to take a look at the ticket to determine what she won. She was $10,000 richer! Following the retailer’s advice, she signed the back of her ticket and took it home to keep it safe.

“When she got home and told me she won $10,000, I didn’t believe her,” said the winner’s happy husband. “Once before, she thought she had a winning ticket, but it turned out not to be, so I had to see it to believe it this time.”

She and her husband made it to Lottery headquarters two days later to claim the prize. With their new windfall, the excited pair plans to put some money in the bank, pay bills and treat themselves to a nice dinner.

The Giant that sold her the $10,000 winning ticket is located at 9730 Groffs Mill Road in Owings Mills. The $10 $100,000 Richer game still has one unclaimed $100,000 top prize and two unclaimed $10,000 prizes.
