Powerball gives him $50,000 prize
A 52-year-old Marylander who recently relocated from White Marsh to Ocean City to retire can do so in style after winning a $50,000 prize playing Powerball!
While shopping at Food Lion located at 11801 Coastal Highway in Ocean City, the lucky player decided to try his luck at Powerball because the jackpot had rolled to $390 million for the July 23 drawing. Powerball has rolled again to $478 million for the Saturday, July 30 drawing.
“I usually buy a few tickets of Mega Millions and Powerball when the jackpots get really high,” he said. “Since I’ve been staying at my parents’ place in Ocean City, I started thinking how great it would be if I won and was able to buy a place here of my own.”
His wish came true. When he checked his Powerball and Mega Millions tickets on one of the Lottery’s ticket checkers, the loyal player thought he’d won $5,000. After he arrived at Lottery headquarters and learned his prize was much larger, the Worcester County resident’s surprise turned into shock.
“I was only looking to walk away with $5,000,” he said. “But the lady in the (Lottery) claims department smiled and told me that I had won a few more clams than I had bargained for, $50,000 to be exact! I just couldn’t believe it. I guess I feel like I’m in shock right now.”
The lucky winner, who recently retired from work in the medical field for over 26 years, said he would use his prize and proceeds from the sale of his house in White Marsh to purchase his dream home at the beach in Ocean City. “Winning this kind of money will definitely make my retirement transition a lot easier,” he said. “This is such a great feeling to know that I can finally relax a bit now.”
