Lottery Winners Kick Off Chinese New Year with Top-prize Wins

Hanover and Pensacola, FL Winners Each Net $10K on Year of the Tiger Scratch-off

Year of the TigerJust a few short weeks into the Chinese New Year and already the Year of the Tiger is beginning to look lucky for Maryland Lottery players. The New Year began on February 14th, but five days later Lottery winners were still celebrating, hoisting $10,000 ceremonial checks in the air. Both winners claimed top-prizes from the aptly-named Year of the Tiger scratch-off.

Luck struck first when a church secretary visited the 7-11 on Dorsey Rd. in Hanover. She purchased the ticket after digging herself out of the big blizzard. The cabin fever only increased, as the snowed-in winner had to wait two weeks until she could claim the prize.

The second big winner, a retired emergency room nurse from Pensacola, FL had returned to the area to meet with her accountant. The 70-year-old was killing time at an Essex strip mall when she purchased the ticket from Middlesex Liquors on Eastern Blvd.

The Year of the Tiger is a $2 scratch-off ticket. There are four $10,000 top-prizes still remaining on the ticket.
