Baltimore resident plays ‘a hunch,’ wins $12,723
An avid Racetrax player from Baltimore who followed his hunch about what numbers to play landed the biggest Lottery win of his life.
The 56-year-old print shop employee enjoys playing the computer-animated horse racing game on a daily basis. On Jan. 21, while at Cherry Hill Liquors in Baltimore, he purchased a five-draw Superfecta ticket and added the Bonus option. He bet on the 2, 5, 11 and 1 horses to finish in that order.
“I play every day and I’ve seen those numbers come up a lot,” the lucky winner said. “So, I played a hunch.”
On the last race, the 2-5-11-1 Superfecta hit and the race carried a 3x Bonus multiplier! His $4,241 prize tripled to $12,723! Despite having a couple of friends along while he played, the winner said he didn’t have much of a celebration.
“I didn’t have any reaction,” he said. “There were too many people in the store. I didn’t want everyone to know.”
He enjoys playing Powerball but his favorite game is Racetrax, which gave him his largest previous Lottery win of $1,900 a couple of years ago.
“I like Racetrax,” he said. “That’s where the money’s at.”
The Baltimore resident said he plans to use the money to pay for a few home repairs and save the rest. Cherry Hill Liquors located at 632 Cherry Hill Road is a winner as well. The retailer will receive a bonus of $127.23 from the Maryland Lottery – equal to 1 percent of the prize value.
