Baltimore seamstress wins $50,000 top prize
Always play the same game and always play the same numbers is their philosophy, a Baltimore couple told Maryland Lottery officials. Their game is Bonus Match 5 and their lucky numbers are a combination of family birthdays. That strategy certainly paid off for the pair, who claimed a $50,402 top prize on a $6 ticket from the Dec. 6 drawing.
“When my husband showed me the ticket and said, ‘Baby, we finally got it,’ I was stunned,” said Luz del Carmen Cabrera Herrera. “It took me a minute to start breathing again.” The win came out of the blue, noted the 40-year-old clothing designer and seamstress. “We’ve won plenty of times before, but never anything like this much.”
Erasing debt and planning a family vacation are near the top of the couple’s list for their Bonus Match 5 winnings. First, though, they plan to brighten the holidays for their kids.
“They’re going to have a special Christmas this year,” she said. “And with the relief this gives us with our bills, life for all of us is going to be better.”
She and her husband found their Bonus Match 5 luck at the Wawa #547 convenience store at 1657 Elkton Road in Elkton. They picked up the 44th top prize awarded in the game this year.
