Joppa Man Wins Nine-Night Cruise Vacation
For the second time in less than two months, William Merritt made his way to Lottery Headquarters this morning to claim a prize. While out of town for work last month, the 45-year-old tunnel superintendant received a phone call from a Lottery official telling him that one of his second-chance Cruise for Cash tickets had been selected as a winner. Merritt is no stranger to cruises, as he has been on at least five, including trips to Mexico and both the Eastern and Western Caribbean.
A frequent Lottery player, the Joppa man purchased this ticket at his local Royal Farms store. The store seems to be lucky for William. Just last month, he won $50,000 from a $20 Cash Spectacular scratch-off he purchased at that same store. He used those winnings for a new kitchen in his home. The overjoyed winner says that he and his girlfriend plan to take the cruise next March.
Partnering with Royal Caribbean International, the Maryland Lottery launched Cruise for Cash on January 10, 2011. The $5 scratch-off features seven $50,000 instant top prizes, as well as 31 instant cruise vacations and a second-chance contest. Players may enter the contest by mailing in a non-winning Cruise for Cash scratch-off or by entering online at mdlottery.com/cruise. The second-chance prize includes a nine-night cruise vacation for two on any one of Royal Caribbean’s cruise ships departing from the Port of Baltimore. The winner will also receive a $1,000 onboard credit. One drawing will take place each month through July.
