Two top prizes remain for Super Bonus Bucks game
Her late mother was always the lucky one in the family, a Hagerstown woman told Maryland Lottery officials on Thursday. The saying, “Like mother, like daughter” rings true for this scratch-off player, who brought her $50,000 top-prize winning Super Bonus Bucks instant ticket to Lottery headquarters.
“I was picking up some dinner at the sub shop last night (Wednesday), when I noticed the Lottery sign. I usually buy a scratch ticket when I see them in stores so I took a look at their selection,” the winner said. The 37-year-old mother of three saw that the instant tickets were displayed in numbered boxes at AC&T in Hagerstown.
“I’ve never been lucky so a long time ago, I picked 13 as my favorite number,” she said. “I asked for a ticket from the #13 box.”
The $5 Super Bonus Bucks game she received put her in a state of shock when she uncovered the prize.
“I really didn’t believe it was real. It just couldn’t be real.” The Washington County resident drove to her sister’s home with her lucky scratch-off. A friend downloaded the Maryland Lottery app on a smartphone so she could scan the ticket’s prize check area to confirm her top-prize win. “When I saw the $50,000 after my friend scanned it, I knew it was the real thing.”
The Washington County mom will use her winnings to find a newer car for her family and set aside remaining funds for her kids’ future. “This is such a blessing,” she said. “I like to think that mom sent down some of the luck she had.”
AC&T #320 is a convenience store and gas station located at 1449 South Potomac Street in Hagerstown. The Washington County business receives a bit of the winner’s luck, too. The Lottery retailer earns a $500 bonus for selling a $50,000 top-prize winning instant ticket.
