Lucky Feeling Brings Germantown Man $100,000 Lottery Win

Chooses Big Play Crossword scratch-off

186-Big-Play-Crossword-ITVM_P2-blueWhen a 65-year-old man stood in line at Langley Park Beer & Wine last week, something caught his eye — a Big Play Crossword scratch-off. That $10 instant ticket would soon change his life. Although he doesn’t often play Maryland Lottery games, the recycling company employee has learned to follow his instincts when it comes to selecting a scratch-off.

“Sometimes I see a ticket and just get a feeling that it is a winner,” he said, while sitting next to his sons at Lottery headquarters. “When I saw this ticket, my gut said that I should buy it.”

After scratching it off and realizing it was a $100,000 top-prize winner, the Montgomery County man was thrilled. The Guatemalan native, who has been in the United States for 25 years, was very excited to be able to share his winnings with his family.

He found his luck at Langley Park Beer & Wine located at 1401 University Blvd. in Hyattsville. For selling the Big Play Crossword top-prize winning ticket, the retailer will receive a $1,000 bonus.
