Claims a $30,000 top prize
A 64-year-old retiree from Prince George’s County is thrilled that playing a Ruby Riches scratch-off has a sea of green coming her way. The lucky grandmother of two just won the $30,000 top prize on the instant ticket.
The Springdale resident found her good fortune after stopping by the Hyattsville Convenience Store. Once there, she purchased a single Ruby Riches instant ticket.
The excited winner told Lottery officials that she decided to scratch off her game in the parking lot of the Prince George’s County store.
“I was so surprised and shocked when I saw that all my numbers matched,” she said. “I went back into the store to scan my ticket to make sure I had won.”
Even after scanning her lucky instant ticket and seeing it won, the scratch-off fan remained skeptical. “Once I got here (Lottery headquarters) and you guys confirmed it for me, that’s when I allowed myself to get excited.”
The grateful grandma said that she’s won a few dollars here and there but nothing ever this big. She plans to spend most of her prize on home repairs after taking a long-deserved vacation to Miami.
Her lucky Lottery retailer is also seeing green. For selling a top-prize scratch-off in the game, the store located at 2230 University Boulevard in Hyattsville earns a $300 bonus from the Lottery. The $3 Ruby Riches game still has plenty of unclaimed prizes, including four more $30,000 winning scratch-offs plus thousands of other prizes of $3 and up.
