Maryland Lottery staff greeted our first top-prize $100,000 Winter Winfall scratch-off winner with a round of applause as she entered the Winner’s Circle this week.
“I’m still truly shocked and still don’t believe this is real!” said the 48-year-old Silver Spring woman. “It was meant to be. It was truly meant to be and a gift!”
She and her father were enjoying the end of a nice weekend when her dad decided he wanted to play scratch-offs. He was recovering from knee surgery and was not supposed to leave the house. Ignoring those instructions, the father went to one of his favorite Lottery retailers located conveniently near their home. He likes Rodman’s Discount Stores in Silver Spring, he said, because of its convenience and friendly staff.
The lucky dad has a play routine that involves only selecting scratch-offs from one specific section of the instant ticket display. He also typically spends a few hours hanging out in the stay-and-play area. Because of his doctor’s recommendation that he stay at home and rest, the dad only bought one instant ticket and returned home.
He surprised his daughter with the $10 scratch-off and she revealed its $100,000 surprise.
With holiday shopping time approaching, the dad and daughter plan to use the winnings to benefit their family members. Joining their celebration is the Montgomery County retailer. For selling the winning top-prize scratch-off in the game, Rodman’s Discount Stores earns a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery! The bonus is equal to 1 percent of the prize.
This was the first of eight top prizes in the game, which is a member of a family of holiday-themed scratch-offs that offer players ways to win big. Simply enter non-winning holiday scratch-offs into the Holiday Cash & Dash second-chance promotion. Players can try to win a trip to Chicago for a 90-second warehouse dash, cash prizes ranging from $1,000 to $25,000 or $300 in scratch-offs. Enter the promotion through My Lottery Rewards.
