Clarksville mom saving windfall for her young sons
“Lucky Lady” and her friends and family members typically buy Maryland Lottery scratch-offs for special occasions like holidays and birthday parties. When the Clarksville mom bought her lucky Power 8s scratch-off, however, the special occasion came after she discovered the game’s $100,000 top prize.
The mother of two sons in elementary school told only her husband about her Lottery luck! She drove March 11 to Lottery headquarters in Baltimore with a longtime friend to claim her winnings. The smiling player said it is rare for her to play the Lottery other than during social gatherings, but she liked the look of the $10 Power 8s instant ticket. The 35-year-old was at Landover Hills Exxon in Landover when she spotted the scratch-off and decided to try her luck. The $100,000 winner and her family have a big reason to celebrate and an event is in the works.
Aside from funding a family celebration, “Lucky Lady” said the bulk of her winnings would go into a bank account to benefit her young children. Sharing in her luck is Landover Hills Exxon. The business located at 6579 Annapolis Road receives a $1,000 bonus, equal to 1 percent of the prize, for selling the top-prize winning scratch-off.
“Lucky Lady’s” win left eight $100,000 top prizes awaiting discovery. Power 8s is ranked ninth on the most recent Maryland Lottery Top 40 scratch-off list. The game went on sale Dec. 26 and contains hundreds of additional prizes ranging $10 to $10,000.
