Sunday morning trip to Royal Farms results in Maximum Jackpot prize

Ronald Storm and Kimberly Boswell have been together for 29 years, but in all that time they never had a day quite like Nov. 6. On that day, Ronald made a morning run to Royal Farms for a couple of cups of coffee and came home with a Maximum Jackpot scratch-off that was a $10,000 winner.

Ronald, who served eight years in the Marine Corps and works as a truck driver, handed the ticket to Kimberly to scratch when he got home. When the Linthicum couple realized they were winners, Kimberly added up the prize amounts revealed on the ticket.

“And she started saying to me, ‘Sign it, sign it!’ ” Ronald said. “I was so ecstatic, I was shaking. I wouldn’t have wanted to be holding any nitroglycerin. It was such an adrenaline high, we didn’t need the coffee.”

Ronald said he had never won more than $50 on a scratch-off previously, and his largest Lottery win was about $300 playing Keno. He and Kimberly said they plan to use the money to pay bills, including some repairs to Ronald’s truck.

“I know the top prize on this ticket is $100,000, but this is like $100,000 to me – nothing like this has ever happened to us,” he said. The lucky winner added that he hopes to return to Lottery headquarters one day to claim another big prize. “I’m 53 years old, so I waited 53 years for this. I hope I don’t have to wait until I’m 106 for the next one.”

Ronald purchased the lucky $10 ticket at the Royal Farms #45 located at 308 South Camp Meade Road in Linthicum. The Maximum Jackpot game launched in May. Four of its $100,000 top prizes have not yet been claimed, along with seven more $10,000 prizes and thousands of additional prizes ranging from $10 to $1,000.
