Baltimore County resident claims top prize on 10X Cash scratch-off game
The latest winner of a $10,000 top prize in the Maryland Lottery’s 10x Cash scratch-off game had the kind of luck that most people only dream about.
The 67-year-old retail merchandising representative from Lutherville was on the job when he found $10 while at Southwest LLC, which is located inside the ShopRite store at 4601 Liberty Heights Avenue in Baltimore.
“It was on the floor near the Lottery machine, and that’s what made me think to buy a ticket,” he said, adding that he picked a 10x Cash ticket because he was drawn to its bright-yellow color. “It was like a good omen. I figured even if I didn’t win anything, it’s $10 I didn’t have before.”
And now, he has $10,000 that he didn’t have before!
“I started scratching it there in the store, and once I got the whole thing scratched, I said, ‘I think I won $10,000,’ ” he said. “It wasn’t until later that I realized that was the max on that ticket.”
The father of two and grandfather of one said he buys scratch-off tickets occasionally, usually when he accompanies his wife to the grocery store. This wasn’t his first lucky experience. In June 2013, he won $50,000 on another scratch-off.
The happy winner said he has no special plans for the prize money. His wife has suggested buying a new car, he said, “but all I really need on my car are new tires – the car runs too good.”
The 10x Cash ticket launched in March and started with 85 top prizes of $10,000. Seven of them are still awaiting discovery at Lottery retailers across the state. The ticket also has two $1,000 prizes left along with more than 20,000 prizes ranging from $10 to $500.
