Lucky Man and Woman Are Baltimore’s New Power Couple

They split $2 million Powerball prize from December drawing

Hearing that someone bought a $2 million winning Powerball ticket from their local Maryland Lottery retailer disrupted the laid-back routine of a pair of loyal Powerball and Mega Millions players.

Twice a week, the Baltimore duo buys Powerball tickets with the Power Play add-on and Mega Millions tickets with Megaplier add-on. They usually set the tickets aside until they’re ready to check the numbers at their retailer or online at mdlottery.com. That laid-back routine went out the window, however, when they heard the news that a $2 million winning Powerball ticket for the Dec. 10 drawing came from Keller’s Liquors. That city retailer, located at 865 W. 36th Street in Baltimore , is the store where they often buy their tickets!

Could they be the winners? The couple went online and checked their ticket’s numbers against the Dec. 10 winning numbers posted on the Lottery website to confirm their Maryland Lottery winner status. The 47-year-old construction worker says he started shaking after realizing that he and his 44-year-old girlfriend held a winning ticket.

“This takes a large burden off of us,” he said, explaining that he can now buy a much-needed new vehicle. As for other plans for the prize, the man and his significant other, who is a state employee, say they like to live simply. They may travel across the country in the future, but have no big plans for their prize other than that.

Keller’s Liquors benefited from the sale of the winning ticket, too, by receiving a $5,000 bonus from the Lottery.
