Bought winning ticket at 7-Eleven in Silver Spring
Playing the same set of lucky numbers for five years was the key to a Washington, D.C., man’s $200,045 Bonus Match 5 win in the May 6 drawing.
The loyal player matched the winning numbers on four lines of his $6 ticket and had another winning combination on three lines. The federal government retiree, who has another set of birth dates he plays and wins with from time to time, found this lucky ticket at the 7-Eleven located at 7980 Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring. This is the second-largest Bonus Match 5 win of 2016; a $600,000 win occurred Jan. 30 at the Soda Pop Shop in Dundalk.
His winning numbers were 6, 13, 15, 20 and 22. The father of one bought his ticket the day of the drawing and was out and about when the evening drawing took place.
“I usually can get the winning numbers on my phone faster than they have them in the stores,” he said, so he checked the winning numbers displayed on his phone against his ticket.
“I couldn’t believe it,” he said. The lucky player went into a Lottery retailer and asked the clerk to print out the winning numbers for the drawing. With the numbers in hand, he quietly left.
He has not told a soul about his Lottery luck and will share news of his good fortune with only a few people. The happy man plans to spend his prize paying off bills and helping some family members financially. He also plans to keep crossing the District’s boundary with Maryland so he can play his favorite Maryland Lottery games: Bonus Match 5, Pick 3, Pick 4, Mega Millions and Powerball. He wins “enough to keep me coming back,” he said with a smile, and reports that his previous personal best was a $50,000 prize.
The 7-Eleven, which is one of several retailers he visits, will receive a bonus of $2,000 from the Lottery for selling the winning ticket.
