Allegany County salon owner nails top prize
A nail salon owner with a knack for picking winning numbers told the tale of how a Maryland Lottery scratch-off helped him win $50,000 playing Bonus Match 5. The 42-year-old’s Dec. 22 win was one of a pair of $50,000 top-prize wins on the Lottery’s Bonus Match 5 drawing that weekend.
The Allegany County resident, a fan of the New England Patriots calling himself “The Minute Man,” found his Lottery luck at Weis Markets in Cumberland. He picked his lucky numbers from a $5 scratch-off he played shortly before selecting the Bonus Match 5 numbers. When he checked the Bonus Match 5 ticket later that evening, the married winner saw the numbers 3, 15, 18, 24, 33 and the Bonus Ball 10 blaze across the screen of his smartphone.
After the shock and surprise of winning the $50,000 subsided, “Minute Man” sent a photo of the drawing numbers and his ticket to his wife.
The happy Cresaptown player said the prize will help him pay down debts and improve the family’s finances.
His lucky retailer also wins. Weis Markets located on 15300 McMullen Highway in Cumberland earned a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling a top-prize ticket in the game. Congrats!
