Winner takes home first top prize on $2 Ravens game
A 32-year-old student from Baltimore who loves the Maryland Lottery’s $2 and $5 Ravens scratch-off games just scored a $20,000 win on the $2 instant ticket. He scratched his way to the instant ticket’s first top prize!
The winner and his uncle were playing scratch-offs at Perry’s Liquors in Baltimore when Lottery luck came to call. He’s played the $2 and $5 Ravens games since they went on sale July 25. The lucky man said he hadn’t won much that day and was about to call it quits when his uncle bought four instant tickets and told him to pick one. “He fanned the cards out and I picked the middle ticket,” said the winner.
The loyal Lottery player went home to play the game and said he actually was fussing at the instant ticket as he scratched it. “I’ve never even seen that football symbol on this game,” he thought to himself. What he saw next blew him away. He revealed one winning number after another.
“I saw $500, then another $500 and more and more amounts,” he said, smiling. “My heart stopped.”
The lucky player immediately called his mother, who shared with him the steps he needed to take to claim the $20,000 winning ticket. After sharing the news with the cashier who sold the lucky ticket, our winner locked it in a safe until he could bring it to Lottery headquarters in Baltimore to claim the prize. To help calm the winner’s nerves, his mother set him up in a hotel for the weekend. “He needed to relax,” she said.
The Ravens fan plans to use the prize money toward some personal responsibilities and to take his first cruise. He will keep playing Ravens scratch-offs, too, and entering non-winners into the second-chance contest in hopes of winning one of the sought-after Ravens-themed prizes. There are seven more top prizes remaining in this game.
Perry’s Liquors is also a winner for selling the top-prize ticket in the game. The Lottery will give the retailer located at 2550 Edmondson Avenue a $200 bonus for making the lucky sale.
