Baltimore woman claims top prize on Fruit Explosion game
A last-minute decision NOT to give a Maryland Lottery Fruit Explosion scratch-off to a friend as a gift led to a heart-stopping moment for a Baltimore woman. After changing her mind, she scratched off the game and discovered that her instant ticket carried a $30,000 top prize!
The lucky woman found her fortune at a Royal Farms in Linthicum, where she stopped for a quick bite to eat and a Powerball ticket. Those purchases left her with $4. Since she owed $1 to someone, she set that aside and invested the remaining $3 in a scratch-off to give as a gift.
The $3 Fruit Explosion game, though, is her instant ticket of choice. The 56-year-old decided she should give her friend something with a higher value and scratched the ticket.
“My heart dropped when I realized that I won,” the happy lady said. She thought that her kids were playing a trick on her! She called and shared her great news with her daughter and grandson. The 20-year food service worker plans to use her winnings to pay off her car loan and make some home repairs.
Her lucky Royal Farms, located at 308 S. Camp Meade Rd. in Linthicum, will earn a $300 bonus from the Lottery for selling a top-prize ticket. The Fruit Explosion game still has plenty of lucky tickets left. There are two more top prizes remaining in the game along with 13 $1,000 prizes.
