Trip to the vet leads to fortunate purchase
A trip to the veterinarian paid off big for Baltimore dog owner Muriel Holt and her new lucky pup. As the 65-year-old and her canine companion Buddy returned home from a vaccination appointment, Muriel decided to make a quick stop to purchase a Maryland Lottery Rainbow Blackout Bingo scratch-off.
Is she ever glad she did! Buddy helped her sniff out a winning ticket that will keep the pup in dog treats for years. Her $2 scratch-off carried the game’s $30,000 top prize!
Muriel, who performs intake services for mental health provider Mosaic Community Services, found the lucky ticket at Crosstown Liquors in Baltimore. She scratched it off at home by crossing off each letter and number as they appeared and slowly revealing the game’s winning blackout pattern.
“My God, I couldn’t believe it,” Muriel said, while claiming her prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. “No one knows I’ve won just yet.”
The lucky woman plans to use her windfall for home improvements and a shopping excursion with her granddaughter. After all, her granddaughter is the reason Muriel and the Terrier/Yorkie-mix puppy found each other. The four-legged friend joined her family soon after her granddaughter fell in love with the pup.
“Nothing is the same when the two of them tear through the house and carry on, but they have fun,” Muriel said.
Sharing in her happy win is the Lottery retailer. For selling a top-prize winning scratch-off over $20,000, Crosstown Liquors will receive a $300 bonus from the Lottery. There are still two more $30,000 top-prize winning tickets in Maryland stores awaiting discovery along with eight $10,000 winners and five $1,000 winners.
