Takes home second top-tier Bonus Match 5 prize
A 63-year-old Reisterstown man can thank some of his family members for his recent Bonus Match 5 win. Early Saturday morning, he played their birthdays at Sam’s Wine and Spirits and later won $50,830. The lucky player matched all five numbers drawn winning a $50,000 prize. He also matched numbers on multiple lines winning an additional $830.
The winner shared with Lottery officials that he had also won the top prize on Bonus Match 5 once before in 2005.
The father and grandfather was out with his wife Saturday night when he found out he won. He missed the drawing, so he decided to pull the numbers up on his phone. “I recognized the numbers right away, because I play them all the time,” he said. “I knew I won at least $800.”
The winner kept the news to himself not mentioning anything to his wife until later, when they were home. He said after checking the actual ticket against the winning numbers he saw that the win was actually a little over $50,000.
“I went upstairs and told my wife, ‘guess what, it’s number two’,” he said.
The winner said that his wife never believes him, so she had to double check.
“I needed to see the ticket and the winning numbers on the computer for proof,” laughed his wife, who accompanied him to Lottery Headquarters to claim the prize.
The Bonus Match 5 winner has no immediate plans for his prize money. Sam’s Wine and Spirits, located at 11130 Reisterstown Rd. in Owings Mills will receive a $500 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
