Charles County man bought winning ticket in Sept. 4 drawing
A U.S. Marine Corps veteran who is a loyal Maryland Lottery player carefully set the Bonus Match 5 game in his sights and hit his target! Operation Win-the-Lottery ended with the Charles County man happily claiming the $50,000 top prize from the Sept. 4 drawing.
The retired military gunsmith said he regularly buys tickets for the game. He plays the same numbers, winning small amounts from time to time. That experience made the 40-year-old wonder if he was hallucinating the day he checked his tickets from the drawing and saw the numbers matched.
“I yelled at the top of my lungs,” said the father of two. In fact, the White Plains resident yelled so frantically that his wife of 18 years thought he was injured. Our lucky winner confessed that he still cannot calm down because he is so excited about his win.
The Florida native and his wife are transplants from Miami. His passion is helping others in need, particularly his fellow veterans. The $50,000 prize comes at a perfect time, he said, because they just built their house and can use the money to pay bills. He also plans to take his family on a vacation.
