Maryland Lottery Bonus Match 5 Fan Rewarded for Loyalty

Baltimore hospital employee claims $50,000 prize from Aug. 13 drawing

It was a rough start to a day but a great end to a week. A Baltimore woman who visited Maryland Lottery headquarters to claim her $50,000 Bonus Match 5 prize attributes her win to an unhappy encounter on the way to work.

“I was driving from my first to second job and was trying to change lanes to avoid some construction up ahead,” said the 57-year-old mother. “This guy in a truck would not let me over. He seemed to be actively working to prevent me from getting where I needed (to be).”

The moment was so frustrating she resolved to get the truck’s license plate number and report it to authorities.

“The plate included four digits, so I figured I’d play that number,” the hospital employee said. A loyal fan of the Lottery’s Bonus Match 5 game, she bought a ticket for the Aug. 13 drawing when she stopped at the 7-Eleven #39243 at 3436 Wilkens Avenue in Baltimore.

“Wouldn’t you know it, the Bonus Match 5 ticket I bought came through for me,” she said. “I just kept thinking to myself, ‘I finally did it.’ ”

She considers her $50,000 brush with lottery luck a blessing. “My house has needed serious roof work for months but I had no way to afford it. Now I can.”

For selling the top-tier ticket, the 7-Eleven will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery.
