Paula Murphy of Timonium claimed the first $50,000 top prize on our new Nutcracker Cash Doubler scratch-off. Way to go! |
Timonium woman wins $50,000 Nutcracker Cash Doubler top prize
Every Saturday, Paula Murphy of Timonium stops in at Padonia Liquors to purchase her weekly mix of Maryland Lottery draw game and scratch-off tickets.
The loyal player is always armed with research from the Lottery’s website. She learns which scratch-offs have top prizes remaining and whether there are new tickets in stores. Knowing the Lottery just distributed its holiday scratch-offs to Maryland retailers, the retiree took a chance on the new Nutcracker Cash Doubler ticket. This time, she won $50,000.
“Nobody is more surprised than me,” said the 64-year-old. “This is by far the most I have ever won!”
The happy surprise came after Paula got home. She methodically scratched the tickets, beginning with the lowest-priced ones. After revealing her win on the $5 ticket and double-checking it, the Baltimore County resident photographed the lucky scratch-off and sent the picture to a few friends.
In addition to investing and saving her winnings, Paula plans to share some of the prize with employees of Padonia Liquors at 51 Padonia Road in Timonium. In addition to her generous gift, the store will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling the top-prize ticket. There are still two top-prize tickets remaining in Maryland stores along with other prize winners ranging from $5 to $5,000.
“I’ve been going to that store for a long time and they have always been so nice to me,” the gracious winner said. “I’m excited to be able to give back to them.”
