Electronic Ponies Charge to Fine Finish and $17,444 Win
As her electronic ponies raced across the finish line in perfect order, a 21-year-old Saint Mary’s County woman couldn’t believe her good fortune. The novice Maryland Lottery Racetrax player won $17,444 by placing a Superfecta bet with Racetrax Bonus on her July 8 game.
The ecstatic winner, who is a caregiver by trade, had her mom at her side when she won at Pegg Road Shell located at 22141 Three Notch Road in Lexington Park. The lucky Lexington Park resident started out the day as a Racetrax rookie and wanted to play the game when her mom could help.
“I must have been there for less than an hour when I saw my horses come in,” she said. “I knew I had won but I thought it was only for a few hundred dollars. I had almost forgotten that I had played the Bonus, as well. I was in shock but it was a good shock!”
She plans to spend some of the prize on payments for a new car she had just purchased. The happy winner will also put some of the money aside for her young daughter and, perhaps, take a trip to the beach.
The Lottery launched the Superfecta bet in April. Players select four horses to place 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th in the exact order. The minimum cost for placing a Superfecta bet is $1. A new Maryland Lottery retailer bonus program will give the Pegg Road Shell a one percent bonus, or $174.44, for selling a winning Racetrax ticket of more than $10,000.
