Maryland Lottery Racetrax Player Rides to $28,000 Win

Edgewood resident’s Superfecta bet pays off

A $3 Superfecta Racetrax ticket had an Edgewood man jumping for joy when his horses placed 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th in exact order to win $28,009 and send him to Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore to claim his prize.

The lucky fellow selected the numbers 7, 11, 3 and 5 for three races at his favorite retailer, the Edgewood Amoco BP. “The first three numbers are my mother’s birthday,” he told Lottery officials. “I hadn’t played those numbers in a while so I thought it would be a good change of pace.”

The Harford County resident watched with a few friends as his horses placed on Aug. 29 and started celebrating. Upon returning home, the 59-year-old attempted to share the good news with his wife but found himself stumbling over his words.

“He was talking so fast, I didn’t know what he was trying to say,” his wife said, laughing. “He just kept telling me to look at the ticket. I didn’t know what I was even looking at.”

Eventually, her husband was able to explain what his ticket was worth and they celebrated together. The couple had to hold onto their ticket over the Labor Day weekend and used the time to decide how they would spend their winnings. Together, they agreed to pay off a few bills.

This lucky player found his good fortune at the Edgewood Amoco BP located at 2201 Pulaski Highway in Edgewood. For selling the winning Racetrax ticket, the retailer will receive a bonus of $280 from the Lottery.
