Mechanicsville Couple Wins $1 Million Powerball Prize

Lucky husband and wife team take home second-tier prize

Late last Wednesday evening, a Mechanicsville couple had the shock of a lifetime when they realized they were Maryland’s newest millionaires. The husband had checked the numbers on the Maryland Lottery’s website soon after the Powerball drawing aired and was stunned to see his ticket’s numbers glaring back at him. He knew immediately that his ticket, which matched all five white balls and lacked only the Powerball number, was worth $1 million.

The 54-year-old quickly woke up his wife to tell her the fantastic news. “I didn’t even have to check the ticket twice,” the wife said, smiling. They kept the ticket in a safe at their home after realizing how much it was worth. The happy couple later told their daughter and son about the win, opting to keep the good news within the immediate family.

The two self-employed winners plan to invest half of the money, pay off their bills and buy a new car. Despite the wonderful windfall, they plan to continue trying their Lottery luck.

“We spend a few dollars a day on tickets,” the man said. “With an exciting win like this, I can’t imagine we would stop playing now!”

The lucky Powerball ticket was purchased at Ken Mar Liquors at 1525 Solomons Island Road in Prince Frederick.
