Medical Appointments Delay Claim of $50,000 Bonus Match 5 Top Prize

Catonsville player ends up waiting more than a month after win in Aug. 13 drawing

A Catonsville man who has been going through some tough times from a health perspective found a reason to smile when he won $50,000 on Aug. 13 playing the Maryland Lottery’s Bonus Match 5 game.

Cashing in had to wait until Sept. 20, however, because medical appointments took precedence, according to his wife. Even then, the winner left Lottery headquarters in Baltimore and headed to a medical appointment.

An avid player for many years, the 68-year-old man says he enjoys the Lottery because it offers “a chance of winning and making your life better.” Thanks to his treatments and his win, he and his wife say life is on an upswing. While no celebrations or special activities are planned anytime soon, they say the money will come in handy.

“We’ll pay off some bills and then get some things done on the house,” the winner’s wife explained.

Also having reason to be pleased is Giant #117 at 6223 Baltimore National Pike in Catonsville, which sold the hot ticket. The Baltimore County store receives a bonus of $500, equal to 1% of the prize, from the Lottery for selling a top-prize winning Bonus Match 5 ticket. The Lottery has sold 35 $50,000 winning Bonus Match 5 tickets in 2021.
