Ticket purchased in Gaithersburg wins $10,000
There was no jackpot winner in the April 2 Mega Millions drawing, but a couple of lucky Maryland Lottery players still have plenty of reasons to celebrate. A winning ticket worth $1 million was sold in Chestertown, and someone bought a $10,000 winning ticket in Gaithersburg.
The winning numbers in the April 2 drawing were 10, 42, 48, 53, 62, and the Mega Ball was 19. The Megaplier was 2X. A ticket purchased at Royal Farms #250, 859 High Street in Chestertown, is a $1 million winner. It matched the first five numbers, but missed out on winning the jackpot because it didn’t match the Mega Ball. The Kent County retailer is a winner as well. For selling the lucky ticket, the Royal Farms store will receive a $2,500 bonus from the Lottery.
This is the second $1 million second-tier Mega Millions win in Maryland this year. The other came in the Jan. 22 drawing on a ticket sold at Cranberry Liquors in Westminster.
Meanwhile, Brighton Beer & Wine at 225 Muddy Branch Road in Gaithersburg sold a $10,000 winner for the April 2 Mega Millions drawing that matched four of the first five numbers and also matched the Mega Ball.
The Lottery encourages both big winners to sign the backs of their tickets and keep them in safe locations until they claim their prizes. The $1 million winner must claim by appointment at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. The $10,000 winner may schedule an appointment to claim at the Lottery office, or can claim the prize at any of Maryland’s six casinos. Winners have 182 days from the date of the drawing to cash their tickets. The Lottery has also instituted a grace period for tickets that reach their expiration dates while the state’s COVID-19 state of emergency remains in effect. Any such tickets can still be cashed for up to 30 days after the state of emergency has been lifted.
In addition to the $1 million and $10,000 winners, there were 16,413 other winning tickets sold in Maryland for the April 2 Mega Millions drawing, with prizes ranging from $2 to $500.
With no jackpot winner, the Mega Millions jackpot for the next drawing on April 6 rolls to an estimated annuity value of $184 million, with an estimated cash value of $123.9 million. The jackpot has been rolling since it was last hit for $96 million ($68.5 million cash) on Feb. 16 in Blossvale, N.Y.
