Megaplier feature triples prize on $3 ticket
A Baltimore man who was just one number shy of winning the $450 million Mega Millions jackpot on Jan. 5 still feels lucky. Because he added the Megaplier option to his quick-pick ticket, he saw the 3x multiplier in the drawing triple his $10,000 prize to $30,000!
“I am very happy to have won $30,000,” said the 41-year-old, whose wife shared the experience of the exciting win. The loyal player was one of two Marylanders who matched four numbers and the Mega Ball in the drawing but was the only one who added the Megaplier to his ticket.
The excited couple told Lottery officials they were stunned when they checked their numbers against the winning numbers in the drawing. “At first, we could not believe our eyes, so we checked the ticket again using another smartphone,” the husband said, explaining that they used the Maryland Lottery app on the smartphone. When they saw the same results on the second phone, the two looked at each other and yelled, “We won! We won!”
The winners plan to move next month and say the big prize will come in handy. As for the jackpot chaser, he plans to continue playing Maryland Lottery jackpot games in hopes of catching a big prize.
The lucky man found his winning ticket at Royal Farms #41 located at 206 West Coldspring Lane in Baltimore.
