Megaplier Delivers $15,000 Mega Millions Prize for Clarksburg Resident

Quick-pick ticket does the trick in May 27 drawing

A Clarksburg resident had an extra enjoyable Memorial Day weekend after winning $15,000 in the May 27 Mega Millions drawing.

The 63-year-old purchased the ticket on the evening of May 27, just a few hours before the drawing, while she was at Giant Food store #349 located at 3530 Sugarloaf Parkway in Frederick. Her quick-pick ticket matched four of the five white balls that were drawn and the Mega Ball. The base prize for that combination is $5,000, but because the Montgomery County resident paid an extra $1 to add the Megaplier option to her ticket, the 3x multiplier tripled her prize to $15,000.

The Montgomery County resident didn’t watch the drawing on the night of May 27 so she decided to check her tickets early the next morning.

“I couldn’t believe it,” she said. “My husband was still asleep and I went and said, ‘You gotta wake up, I won!’ ”

The lucky winner plays Mega Millions on a regular basis. Her largest previous Lottery prize came with a $100 scratch-off win. She said she plans to put the prize money in the bank and use it to pay for home improvements.

Mega Millions drawings take place every Tuesday and Friday night, with jackpots that start at $15 million. Eight other prize levels range from $1 to $1 million. Tickets are $1 each, or $2 for players who opt to add the Megaplier.
