Multiplies player’s prize to $40,000
A Prince George’s County woman is still mega excited a week after winning $40,000 playing the Mega Millions jackpot game.
The 66-year-old was one of three Marylanders who matched four white balls and the Mega Ball in the May 4 drawing for a $10,000 win. She was one of two players who added the Megaplier feature to their tickets, which quadrupled the prize after a 4x multiplier was applied.
The happy winner said she doesn’t always play Mega Millions. On May 4, however, she experienced a lucky feeling. She bought her ticket at Harbour Liquors in Curtis Bay for that night’s drawing and then went to work. The government employee didn’t check the ticket for several days.
“I always have my son check the tickets because he has the Lottery app on his phone,” she said. After turning over her Maryland Lottery tickets to him, she went to work.
“When I saw the message come up (on the app), I knew she won something big,” said the son. “When I called her, I whispered in the phone. She thought something was wrong!”
The lucky lady, who has two grown children and one grandson, plans to use some of the prize for a family vacation and put the rest in the bank.
Her Anne Arundel County Lottery retailer, Harbour Liquors, is located at 8140 Fort Smallwood Road in Curtis Bay.
No one has hit the jackpot since the May 4 drawing. After rolling three times, the jackpot for Friday’s drawing is set at $55 million with a cash option of $32 million.
