Megaplier Quadruples Woman’s Mega Millions Win

Megaplier turns a $10,000 win into $40,000

A Laurel woman came to Lottery headquarters today to claim an unexpected, but timely, $40,000 Mega Millions win.  The woman, who matched four of the first five numbers plus the Mega Ball on her ticket, originally thought she had won $10,000.  When she went to her local retailer to confirm her win, she remembered that she had chosen the Megaplier option and learned that what would have originally been a $10,000 win became $40,000.

“I feel like a millionaire!” the mother of an 11-year-old son exclaimed to Lottery officials.  The anonymous winner said that she works as a “temp” for a staffing company and had just been informed that her latest assignment had come to an end.  “I didn’t have another job lined up,” she said. “I was very concerned about paying my bills.  I’m so relieved; this couldn’t have happened at a better time.”

The lucky winner, who only shared her big news with her father, said she plans to purchase a car, pay outstanding bills and save the rest.

The winning ticket was sold at the Green Valley Convenience Store, located at 3737 Lawson Rd., Ijamsville.
