Scratches $10,000 win on Hot Hand instant ticket
When Dennis Goldberger stopped at the Royal Farms store in Middle River last week, he had no intention of buying a Maryland Lottery instant ticket. But, when he received a $5 bill and some change from his purchase, he decided to try his luck on a $5 scratch-off.
“I just randomly picked out a $5 ticket, which happened to be a Hot Hand scratch-off,” said the happy Middle River resident. “I thought there was something wrong with the ticket when I saw it was a $10,000 winner.”
The maintenance technician immediately called his wife, Donna, to tell her the good news.
“He made me guess the amount he won,” said Dennis’ wife of 40 years. “I figured it was $1,000, so when I heard it was $10,000, I was really excited.”
Dennis then took the ticket to his son-in-law, who works nearby, so that another set of eyes could confirm the win. That’s when it really began to sink in!
Dennis and Donna, who are proud grandparents of a five-year-old grandson, plan to put the money in the bank.
The 63-year-old found his lucky ticket at Royal Farms #42 located at 1302 Windlass Drive in Middle River. In addition to numerous prizes between $5 and $5,000, the Hot Hand scratch-off still has three $50,000 top prizes and two $10,000 prizes remaining.
