Middle River Woman Rakes In The Cash

Wins Cash Word Scratch-Off $20,000 Top Prize

Cash WordThe word was “win” for one Middle River woman when she scratched her way to the $20,000 top-prize on the Cash Word instant ticket.  The admitted scratch-off fan bought the winning ticket at Ballard Liquors on Saturday. Uncertain at first about how to play the game, the 65-year-old retired Maryland State employee asked a friend to help her. She then proceeded to scratch her ticket, starting at the bottom and working upward, only to realize that word #8 was the $20,000 winner. Still not completely convinced of her win, she asked the Lottery Retailer to check her scratch-off and it was confirmed that she was indeed $20,000 richer.  She and her friend returned home excited, counting down the hours until Monday morning.

The Middle River resident, who loves ballroom and hand dancing, said that she will put most of the money in the bank and do some renovations on her house. “I still can’t believe it, even though I have the check in my hand,” said the lucky winner as she was leaving Lottery Headquarters.

The winning ticket was sold at the Ballard Liquors, 210 Ballard Ave. in Middle River.
