Wins big with Ultimate Cash scratch-off
A retired U.S. Army colonel arrived at Maryland Lottery headquarters Monday morning on a top-secret mission involving a $5 scratch-off.
The Frederick man was handing over a $50,000 top-prize Ultimate Cash scratch-off that he hid in his vehicle over the weekend to keep it safe from prying eyes. The scratch-off fan wanted to keep news of his win secret until he completed the paperwork required to claim his prize and receive confirmation of his win in the mail.
“I’m going to surprise my wife with it,” said the father of three. The Frederick County man also plans to pay bills with the prize and share some of the win with the store clerk.
The loyal player usually selects $10 and $20 scratch-offs at his favorite Lottery retailer, Sheetz #210 in Walkersville. By changing the price point for his instant ticket purchase, he supersized his luck. “I decided to buy some of these $5 scratch-offs,” he said, and started scratching off the four Ultimate Cash instant tickets in the store. He found his big win on the first scratch-off.
How did he react? He was calm, cool and collected. “My heart beat a little faster,” he admitted. The military veteran showed the clerk his winning ticket and exited the store, leaving other customers in the dark about his good fortune.
Managers of the Sheetz located at 8408 Woodsboro Pike in Walkersville know all about their store’s lucky Lottery status. The convenience store will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling a winning ticket with a top prize of $20,000 to $99,000.
The Ultimate Cash game still has plenty of winning tickets waiting for players to take home. Four more $50,000 top-prize tickets are in Maryland stores along with 10 $5,000 tickets and 26 $1,000 tickets.
