First two tickets purchased net top prize
Before Feb. 19, a Millersville man’s go-to game was Keno. He’s a “FAST PLAY Convert,” however, after instantly winning a $30,000 top prize on the new FAST PLAY game Treasure Chase.
The 61-year-old stopped by Northway Liquors at 8101 Veterans Highway in Millersville on his way to work.
“I usually play Keno, but the clerk there told me there is a new game and I had to try it. I said, ‘OK,’ ” recalled “FAST PLAY Convert” while at Maryland Lottery headquarters. He paid $6 for two of the $3 Treasure Chase tickets and, within seconds, he knew he was looking at a $30,000 payday.
Asked about his thoughts on the new game, he said, “I like it. Well, no, I love it!” While thrilled about the early morning win that came so quickly, the Anne Arundel County resident wasn’t able to redeem his prize quite as fast.
“I was on my way to work and I had to wait until after work to cash out,” said “FAST PLAY Convert.”
As far as spending the winnings, that’ll be an extended process as well, he said. The winner does have a few house projects to address. After that, though, he plans to put the rest of his prize away “and I’ll spend it as needed, or, I should say, we, because my wife will be spending it too when she finds out.”
When he was playing Keno, “FAST PLAY Convert” won amounts up to $2,500 with the last big win of more than three years ago. This $30,000 score is what made him a convert to the new game.
Sharing in the Lottery luck is Northway Liquors, which receives a bonus of $300 from the Lottery for selling a top-prize winning ticket in the game. The bonus is equal to 1 percent of the prize.
Treasure Chase still has nine of its 10 top prizes available. The game is one of five FAST PLAY games that went on sale statewide on Feb. 10. FAST PLAY is a new Lottery product with games that print out on Lottery terminals and self-service vending machines but play like scratch-offs. Also in the lineup are the $1 Piggy Bank Bucks, $2 Cherry Twist, $3 Treasure Chase and $5 Hit $250 games.
