Essex woman takes home Deluxe Crossword prize
A Baltimore County woman who thought she had a $50 winning scratch-off was in for a surprise while checking her Deluxe Crossword ticket at a Maryland Lottery retail location.
“He told me it was too large to cash at the store and that they could only cash up to $5,000,” the 63-year-old told Lottery officials. “I then looked at my ticket and saw I missed the letter ‘H.’ Once I scratched that, I knew I won $10,000.”
The grocery store cashier, who purchased her $5 instant ticket at Essex BP located at 220 Eastern Ave. in Essex, quickly came to Lottery headquarters with her daughter to claim the prize. Still in disbelief, the winner said she would pay bills with her winnings. She and her daughter also planned to pick up crab cakes for dinner the night she claimed her big win.
This isn’t the first time the Essex resident made a trip to Lottery headquarters to claim a prize. Quite a few years ago, she won another $10,000 prize on the Mr. Boh scratch-off.
The Deluxe Crossword game still has four unclaimed $50,000 top prizes, 11 more $10,000 prizes and thousands of others ranging from $5 to $1,000.
