La Plata woman claims prize on Lucky Numbers game
A 24-year old Charles County woman can thank her mother for a $174,996 Maryland Lottery FAST PLAY win. She was with her mother at a Wawa convenience store in La Plata earlier this month when Lady Luck instantly appeared.
The win was instant because her mom purchased FAST PLAY games, which play like a scratch-off without the need to scratch. FAST PLAY games come in a variety of themes and price points, with top prizes ranging from $1,000 to over $100,000. In this winner’s case, a $10 Lucky Numbers game carried a whopping $174,996 progressive top prize.
The ticket her mom gave her to play showed the instant win but the lucky woman didn’t realize that fact until later in the day. The pair were visiting another Lottery retailer and had pulled out the ticket. “We had the cashier check the ticket and she told us it was a winner,” said the player. “We were so in shock and a little scared.”
The two were scared because they weren’t sure what to do next! After checking the Lottery’s website, they made an appointment at Lottery headquarters to claim the prize. The winner is a child care provider and lost her job due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She plans to spend her newfound fortune to pay off some of her debt and save the rest of her prize.
FAST PLAY progressive games have a progressive top prize that grows every time a ticket is sold until a winner occurs. Players can see up-to-the-minute progressive top prize amounts printed on each ticket. Once a win occurs, the prize resets to the starting amount of $100,000. There are 29 more progressive top prizes awaiting players in this game.
The ticket’s seller, Wawa #584-E, also wins. The Charles County business located at 5955 Crain Highway in La Plata earns a bonus of $1,000 for selling a top-prize winning ticket in the game.
