Monkton Resident Turns Love of Orioles Into $10,010 Keno Win

Plays 8 spot ticket packed with 8s to win prize

A diehard Baltimore Orioles fan who arrived at Maryland Lottery headquarters adorned in Orioles bling pointed to her love of the baseball team as the reason she played eight numbers with an 8 in them on a Keno ticket. And those lucky O’s numbers won her a $10,010 prize!

The Monkton resident, who played 10 games using the numbers 8, 18, 28, 38, 48, 58, 68 and 78, won on May 2 with a ticket she purchased at a 7-Eleven in Phoenix.

“I was shocked that I had won,” said the 40-something loyal Lottery player. “I have won big once before – $24,000 – but never thought it would happen again.”

The Orioles “super fan” started following the team because of infielder Manny Machado and loves Mr. No. 8 himself, Cal Ripken. He’s on her wish list of current and former players to meet. The Baltimore County resident has met three players – Steve Pearce, Jim Palmer and Rick Dempsey.

Her Lottery win comes at an opportune time because a member of the family is ill, she said, and she wants to visit them. The prize will pay for the cost of her travels.

Her lucky retailer also shares in her celebration. For selling a winning Keno ticket of $10,000 or more, the Baltimore County 7-Eleven located at 14215 Jarrettsville Pike will receive a $100 bonus.
