Montgomery County Man Claims $775,000 Multi-Match Prize

Hit fifth jackpot of 2019 in Aug. 19 drawing

A 62-year-old Montgomery County man stopped by Maryland Lottery headquarters during Thanksgiving week to claim a Multi-Match prize so big it could finance holiday feasts for decades to come.

The lucky winner hit a $775,000 jackpot in the Aug. 19 drawing after buying a $10 ticket at Giant #368 in Gaithersburg. His quick-pick ticket matched the drawing’s six winning numbers.

The lucky retailer, which is located at 842 Muddy Branch Road, gained publicity from the big win plus a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling a jackpot-winning ticket.

Players have seen six Multi-Match jackpots hit this year, compared to five in 2018 and seven in 2017.

Before the Montgomery County resident made it to Lottery headquarters to claim his prize from August, the Multi-Match jackpot was hit again, with a Baltimore woman winning $1.3 million in the Nov. 18 drawing. The jackpot for the Thursday, Dec. 5 drawing is $550,000 with a cash option of $300,000.

Multi-Match drawings are held Monday and Thursday nights and are televised live at 11:22 p.m. on WBAL-TV. The in-state game starts with a $500,000 jackpot, which rises after each drawing in which the jackpot isn’t hit. Each $2 Multi-Match ticket gives players three lines of six numbers from a range of 1 to 43. Six winning numbers from that range are drawn. To win a prize, players must have at least three matches on any single line of their ticket, or at least five matches using all three lines. To win the jackpot, players must have all six winning numbers on a single line.
