Montgomery County Teacher Chalks Up $50,000 Powerball Win

Congratulations to this Powerball-winning “proud papa,” who has spent his life teaching and giving back to others. We just gave him a $50,000 prize!

Misses jackpot in Jan. 13 drawing by one number

When a 33-year-old teacher purchased Powerball tickets in hopes of winning the historic $1.6 billion jackpot, he decided to choose his own numbers. Those random picks gave the “Proud Papa” a $50,000 payday.

The Derwood resident didn’t realize his good fortune until he stopped by a grocery store the next day to check his tickets. What great news – he needed to make a trip to Lottery headquarters in Baltimore to claim his third-tier prize!

The Derwood resident matched four white balls and the Power Ball number. The father of two plans to invest his prize.

The lucky winner, who claimed his prize with his mom by his side, purchased his ticket at Goshen Beer & Wine located at 9150 Rothsbury Drive in Gaithersburg.

The world-record $1.6 billion Powerball drawing produced 23 other $50,000 Maryland winning tickets. In addition, the state saw three $1 million, one $100,000 and more than a half million other winning tickets sold.
