Bel-Air Woman wins $50,000 Top Prize on Raise the Stakes
A few spare minutes resulted in a $50,000 Raise the Stakes scratch-off prize for a happy Harford County woman. On Thursday, the mother-of-one was early for work, so she made a pit stop at a 7-11 to purchase two Raise the Stakes scratch-offs. Still arriving ahead of schedule, the grocery-store employee decided to scratch the two tickets. Moments later, the first ticket was revealed to be a top-prize $50,000 winner.
Unable to keep the news to herself, she immediately called her only son to tell him about the win. “I may have won $50,000, but I need you to come down here and help me double check the ticket,” she explained. When her son heard the news, he thought it was too good to be true. The self-proclaimed realist said, “I was hopeful, but skeptical at the same time.”
The selfless mother awarded her son the $50,000 as a gift. “He deserves this money more than me,” she said. The 28-year-old son has been in need of a new car for a few years, and plans to purchase a new vehicle with his mom’s generous gift. He will also show his appreciation to his mother by sharing a portion of his winnings with her.
