Wins Top Prize on Crossword Multiplier Scratch-off
Heavy rain and flooded streets didn’t prevent Robert Gemmell from making his way from Mount Airy to Lottery Headquarters yesterday. The 80-year-old arrived with his two daughters by his side, a bit wet, but happy none-the-less to claim his big Lottery win. “The dark clouds seem to follow us to Lottery headquarters, but it was clear skies in front of us,” said Robert.
The retired engineer was at home in front of the TV when he scratched his winning ticket. “I had two tickets and won on the second,” said the winner. He added that he has been playing the Crossword Multiplier scratch-off since it came out in April. “I didn’t get anything for having five red words, so I wondered what I would get for having six.” He was delighted to discover it was the ticket’s top prize of $50,000.
Robert quickly called to share the news with his two daughters. With his winnings, the widower plans to go to Phoenix to visit his son and help out his three children and five grandchildren.
The winning ticket was purchased at Cork and Bottle, located at 4305 Ridge Rd. in Mount Airy.
