If you had asked the Halethorpe school bus driver who visited Maryland Lottery headquarters last week to name her favorite movie, she’d say “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” without a moment’s hesitation. That was even before she found her own Golden Ticket playing the Lottery’s WILLY WONKA GOLDEN TICKET™ scratch-off!
The 59-year-old Baltimore County woman said her $100,000 top-prize win will ease her transition into retirement, erasing many of her worries. A change in her routine led her to the lucky scratch-off.
“I get a Willy Wonka ticket from the vending machine whenever I do my grocery shopping,” she reported. Her scratch-off routine hit a snag last week, though. “The machine was out of them so I had to check elsewhere.” Luckily, Doc’s F&B Liquors in Glen Burnie was fully stocked. “I found them there, took the ticket home and that’s when I got the shock of my life.”
She remembers staring in disbelief at her $100,000 winning scratch-off. All that she could say – over and over – was, “No way!” Needing to share her news, even though she didn’t fully believe it, the winner called her mom.
“She could tell from the sound of my voice that something big was going on, I guess, because the first thing she said to me was, ‘Did you win the lottery or something?’ ”
With school starting next week, the bus driver’s days will soon become very busy. She plans to spend her evenings deciding which stocks to investigate. “I want to invest most of this and see if I can make it work for me,” she said.
Her Lottery luck certainly worked some magic for Doc’s F&B Liquors, too. The Anne Arundel County Lottery retailer located at 7067 B&A Boulevard earns a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling a top-prize scratch-off of $100,000.
There are two more $100,000 top prizes in this $10 game, which carries a second-chance contest that can turn players into billionaires. They can enter non-winning WILLY WONKA GOLDEN TICKET™ scratch-offs into the BILLION DOLLAR CHALLENGE™ for a chance to win a trip to Las Vegas, where they can try to win up to $1 billion. The next entry deadline is Sept. 10.
