Claims top prize on $100 Grand game
What many would consider one of the worst days of the workweek was a great day for a lucky Maryland Lottery scratch-off fan. The happy Baltimore County winner claimed the fifth $100,000 top prize on the $100 Grand scratch-off on Monday.
“I just couldn’t believe it,” said the lucky player, who chose the nickname “Muggy” to reflect the day’s weather. “I was at a loss for words and kept saying to myself that it was real.”
“Muggy” found his Lottery luck Saturday evening. During his work break, the 56-year-old headed to his favorite Lottery retailer, Towson Shell, to test his luck. When asked why he likes going there, “Muggy” said, “It’s just super convenient for me and I also have had a lot of luck there so it’s a superstition in a way.”
With his break and, apparently, his “luck” winding down, “Muggy” decided to buy the $10 scratch-off game and try his luck one last time.
“I scratched the ticket and noticed the number 25,” he said. “I realized that I had that number! Then, I saw how much I won and immediately told the cashier, ‘Put that in the machine!’ ” The cashier confirmed the win and “Muggy” was, indeed, $100,000 richer!
This marks “Muggy’s” first top-prize win and he hopes it will not be his last. He plans to pay bills with his prize, put money toward his retirement and go to Walt Disney World in Florida.
The lucky Baltimore County retailer is also a winner. Towson Shell located at 935 York Road earns a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling a $100,000 top-prize scratch-off.
And, the $100 Grand game is still packed with winning scratch-offs. Players can search for three more $100,000 winners, two $20,000 prizes, nine $10,000 prizes and thousands of others ranging from $10 to $1,000.
