Multi-Magic: Ellicott City Man Amazed at $725,000 Multi-Match Jackpot

Father of two claims third Multi-Match jackpot of 2017

An Ellicott City man could only muster three-letter exclamations, “Wow,” and “OMG” after checking his Multi-Match ticket this week.

The source of the sorcery that had his tongue so twisted? Just call it the “Multi-Magic” that occurred when his Multi-Match ticket matched all of the numbers in the April 27 drawing, delivering a $725,000 jackpot.

The 51-year-old retail worker said he often plays the Lottery’s jackpot games, including Multi-Match, which is drawn every Monday and Thursday and is exclusive to Maryland. He purchased a single Multi-Match ticket on the evening of April 27, but added that he didn’t examine the ticket or realize he had won until hearing from an acquaintance that the Lottery had announced a winning ticket had been sold for a recent Multi-Match drawing.

The Howard County resident was baffled when he compared his ticket with the drawing results and saw that one of the three lines of numbers on his ticket matched all of the winning numbers.

“I’ve always dreamed about winning the jackpot, but it just didn’t register,” said the lucky winner, a married father of two, who claimed the prize on May 3 at Lottery headquarters.

The couple’s older child is a college freshman and their younger child is searching for prospective colleges. The winner told Lottery officials that the prize will help to pay for college tuition and other expenses. Opting for the annuity, the lucky winner will receive 25 yearly payments of approximately $19,000 after taxes.

Are you searching for “Multi-Magic” of your own? You can try your luck at the site of the most recent jackpot win, the Towne & Country Liquor Shoppe located at 9639 Reisterstown Road in Owings Mills. The retailer is also a winner, earning a bonus of $1,000 for selling a jackpot-winning Multi-Match ticket valued at less than $1 million.

The win marks the third Multi-Match jackpot hit in 2017. A lucky player in Glen Burnie won a $1.35 million jackpot in the Jan. 23 drawing, and a Worcester County resident was a $1 million winner in the March 23 drawing after buying a ticket in Berlin. The game produced seven jackpot winners in 2016.
