Multi-Match Jackpot Win Pushes Accountant’s Ledger to Overflow

Reisterstown woman claims $775,000 prize from Aug. 14 drawing

Stopping in at Cherryvale Liquors in Reisterstown to get a few Powerball tickets, a 50-year-old accountant learned that the store had sold a $775,000 jackpot-winning ticket in the Aug. 14 Multi-Match drawing.

The wife and mother flashed back to her last visit to the store. The Baltimore County resident had purchased three tickets for that very game, for that very drawing. A few minutes later, she was crying and laughing at the same time.

“I dug through my purse to find the tickets,” the excited winner told Lottery officials when she claimed her prize. “I was pretty sure they were in there. I was barely breathing when I scanned them and when the message told me to take them to Lottery headquarters, oh my goodness, I couldn’t breathe!”

A regular Lottery customer at Cherryvale Liquors, she’s formed a friendship with the owner. He looked up the winning numbers, compared them to her ticket, turned to her and said, “It’s you!”

“I really could not believe it, I just started crying,” the Reisterstown resident said. The owner called the winner’s husband and told him that he was needed at the store. When the concerned spouse arrived, he learned of his wife’s amazing jackpot win. The couple celebrated first with the store employees, later with co-workers and finally together at home. The winning ticket was part of the fun.

“It was in my purse the whole time,” the winner said. “I wouldn’t put it down. I even slept with it last night.”

When asked about plans for the jackpot win, the happy woman said, “This will help us in so many ways – the mortgage, credit card bills … we can help our kids and maybe even take a vacation.”

Also celebrating the win is her lucky Baltimore County retailer. For selling a jackpot-winning ticket, Cherryvale Liquors located at 11801 Reisterstown Road in Reisterstown earned a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery.
