New Carrollton Chauffeur Delivers $50,000 Passenger to Baltimore

Claims Bonus Match 5 top prize at Lottery headquarters

A car service driver from Prince George’s County dropped off an impressive passenger at Maryland Lottery headquarters this week – a $50,000 winning Bonus Match 5 ticket.

The 60-year-old New Carrollton resident selected the numbers on his winning ticket using a combination born of a study of recent Bonus Match 5 results. He played the lucky numbers in the April 16 drawing at New Carrollton Liquors in Hyattsville.

“I buy tickets whenever I have a few extra bucks in my pocket, usually about once a week,” he told Lottery officials. “I enjoy doing the research, finding the numbers that seem to pop up more than others.”

When asked about his play system, he said, “I know the game is random, but when I look at a list of Bonus Match 5 results, numbers seem to stand out to me.”

Learning the next day from the Lottery’s website that his numbers had come in, the chauffeur said he’d never been more excited. “For a couple of days, I couldn’t think about anything else,” he said. “It was crazy.”

Life returned to normal as weeks passed. His busy schedule gave him no free time to claim his prize. From time to time, he’d see a Lottery sign while driving and his win would pop back into his mind. “It was great to think about once in a while … put a smile on my face every time.”

He plans to dedicate his winnings to paying off student loans. For selling the top-prize ticket in the game, New Carrollton Liquors at 8433 Annapolis Road received a $500 bonus from the Lottery.
